Outdoor Fireplaces

Custom outdoor fireplaces and fire pits that extend your outdoor living season and create a warm gathering space.

Overview

An outdoor fireplace transforms your backyard from a three-season space into a year-round retreat. At Pedra Landscaping, we design and build custom fire features that become the heart of your outdoor living area — a place where family and friends naturally gather on cool evenings, holidays, and everything in between.

From rustic stone fireplaces that anchor a patio to sleek linear fire tables that complement modern architecture, we build fire features in every style. We work with natural gas, propane, and wood-burning options, each designed with proper ventilation, safety clearances, and Ontario Building Code compliance. Every fire feature we construct is built to last with premium materials, proper footings, and expert masonry — not a prefab kit, but a custom installation crafted to your exact specifications.

Our Process

01

Design Consultation

We discuss your preferred fuel type, style, and placement, then design a fire feature that integrates with your existing or planned outdoor space.

02

Engineering & Permits

We prepare construction drawings, calculate safety clearances, and handle any required permits or gas line coordination.

03

Construction

Our masons build the fireplace or fire pit from the foundation up, using premium stone and firebrick with proper ventilation and structural integrity.

04

Gas & Finishing

Licensed gas fitters connect the fuel line (if applicable), we install finishing stone, caps, and accessories, then test everything for safety and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the type and location. Wood-burning fireplaces typically require a building permit and must meet setback requirements. Gas fireplaces may need a gas permit. Fire pits have specific municipal bylaws that vary by city. We handle all permit requirements for your specific project and location.

A fireplace has a vertical structure with a firebox, chimney, and often a mantel — it radiates heat forward and creates a dramatic focal point. A fire pit is a lower, open design that people gather around from all sides. We build both, and can help you decide which works better for your space and lifestyle.

Natural gas is more convenient (unlimited fuel, no tanks to refill) and costs less to operate, but requires a gas line to be run to the fireplace location. Propane is more flexible for placement since it uses a portable tank, but requires periodic refills. We'll recommend the best option based on your property setup.

Yes! Gas fireplaces can be used year-round with the flip of a switch. Wood-burning fireplaces and fire pits can also be used in winter, though some municipalities have seasonal burn restrictions. We design all our fire features to withstand Ontario's full range of weather conditions.
