Most standard interlocking and landscaping projects in the GTA do not require a permit. However, certain work — like retaining walls over 1 metre, elevated decks, or structures near property lines — may need municipal approval. We handle the permit research for your specific project so you don’t have to worry about it.

Permits are typically required for retaining walls over 1 metre in height, any deck or structure attached to the home, and work that alters grading or drainage near a neighbour’s property. Requirements vary by municipality, and we’ll confirm what’s needed before any work begins.

We stand behind every project with a workmanship warranty that covers settling, shifting, and structural issues caused by installation. The exact coverage period depends on the scope of work and is outlined clearly in your contract. Manufacturer warranties on materials like pavers and polymeric sand are provided separately.

Excavation depth depends on the application and local soil conditions. Driveways typically require 12–14 inches of excavation to support vehicle weight, while patios and walkways need 8–10 inches. Proper depth is critical for a stable, long-lasting surface that won’t shift or settle over time.

Every project includes a grading plan to ensure water flows away from your home and doesn’t pool on the surface. We build in proper slope, install drainage channels or French drains where needed, and compact the base in layers. Good drainage is the foundation of a project that lasts decades.

We use granular A gravel compacted in lifts for the sub-base, topped with limestone screenings or HPB for the setting bed. For joints, we always use high-quality polymeric sand — it locks pavers together, prevents weed growth, and resists ant intrusion far better than regular sand.

Interlocking is low-maintenance — a yearly rinse and occasional re-sanding of the joints is usually all it needs. Avoid rock salt in winter, as it can damage the surface and fade colours. Use calcium chloride or sand for traction instead. We’re happy to share a seasonal care guide after your project is complete.
